Anchoring at Qualicum Beach | A New View of Our Hometown

Qualicum Beach is a beautiful town in central Vancouver Island. It, as the name says, has a long, beautiful, sandy beach as well as boasting picturesque stores and quaint coffee shops within the town center up the hill. The beach and town are great to visit on foot, but sailing in the area is a different story.

Qualicum Beach is not a sheltered anchorage. Winds blow directly into the beach, creating short waved chop that make relaxing and sleeping extremely difficult- far from the ideal when cruising.

We knew the above was an issue, so when we saw two days (on a weekend!) that were forcast to be dead calm in Qualicum, we decided it would be the perfect time to sail up to the area for a couple of days. We also knew that the beautiful sand and clear waters would be perfect for some snorkelling video ;)

Luckily for us, the weather held out as forecast (for the most part) and we had a lovely two days of exploring the waters at Qualicum Beach, both above and below. Check out the YouTube videos embedded below to see more about the journey!
